To add a page go to - create content – then page 

Make sure you give it 

a short TITLE (this is the name of the page in the system) 

a PAGE TITLE – this is the bit in the blue bar at the top of the browser and is very important for the search engines 

Menu Settings

in MENU SETTINGS – menu link title = the words to include on the menu, Parent item = menu it goes in, weight = position 

Body = Page content   

COPY AND PASTE 

If you copy content from elsewhere note this does not always work well due to the Microsoft conversion into HTML in that it often tries to maintain formatting from Word etc and tries to override the formatting being used for the web site. So note there are 3 paste buttons:

  • Paste – usually leaves lots of unnecessary formatting in place
  • Paste as text – usually brings content in unformatted
  • Paste from Word – tries with varying degrees of success to remove word formatting styles.

Try each to see which gives you the best results for a piece of work – generally what you are aiming for is to get the content in as clean as possible then format in the editor.   

If none are satisfactory – PASTE into NOTEPAD, then COPY from NOTEPAD and PASTE in again – you should now get clean text but with unnecessary linebreaks. 

STYLES 

NORMAL is the default and should be your starting point for all content (rather than NORMAL (DIV)) 

A web page should have one HEADING1 – the major heading on the page and  important for search engines.

Otherwise it should have other headings (HEADING2 – HEADING6) to break up the text as appropriate. HEADING3 is a sub-heading of HEADING2 and so on. You can have as many of each of these as you need. 

NEW PARAGRAPH = RETURN key

NEW LINE = SHIFT/RETURN keys 

Note HEADINGS, BULLETS work at PARAGRAPH level so would include text separated by LINE breaks.

Make sure you give the page a friendly url in URL PATH SETTINGS – this is the page name you will use to link to this page (use a couple of words that are explanatory with dashes or but no spaces)
