Epsilis Demo CMS

Epsilis LogoThis site has been set up with a small amount of styling so that selected Epsilis customers can try out this Content Management System to see if a CMS is right for them.

Please feel free to add pages and make amendments - it would be nice if you did not completely ruin the pages that are here, but not to worry if you do.

Try out creating new pages or new articles for the News section.ytuijk

There are inbuilt limits to the sizes of files, images and documents you can upload.

Getting Started

Adding a Page

There is a Page called Getting Started that is a brief guide to the basics of adding a new page.

Adding an Article or Story

Adding an Article (or story)  is broadly similar, except that it is set  to be part of the Latest News list (as long as you select that it is part of that list) and it does not therefore require a Menu Entry (although it could have one if you did want to add it into a menu).

Note Lists use Teasers - by default the system will decide where to break the content for the Teaser but you will get better results if you add the Teaser Break yourself at a point that makes sense. There is an extra button in the editor called BREAK for this purpose.

Editing an Existing Page

After login navigate to the page you wish to change - select the Edit tab near the top of the page - you can then Edit the content of that page. Please read the Adding a Page Getting Started if you have not already done so as this gives you an overview of the basic elements of a page.

The Editor

There is some help for the html editor (it is an industry standard one called FCKeditor that turns up in lots of CMS systems - that has been adapted slightly for this CMS). The help comes from the FCKeditor site and therefore does not reflect the tailoring done for this CMS but the differences are not particularly relevant.

Adding Images - It is possible to add images into the content of a page but they need to be prepared first in terms of suitable dimensions and file sizes. They are up loaded to the server.

File Attachments - Files such as PDFs can be uploaded:

  • If they are added to a link and uploaded in that same process they will be linked to within the content
  • Alternatively below the editor is an option to upload file attachments - if this is used the files appear in a list at the bottom of the page.

Publishing Options

Pages and Stories (Articles) can be published immediately (default setting) or can be held back for reviewing.

Menus

For the purposes of this demo there are 2 public menus:

  • Primary Menu - horizontal menu near top
  • Secondary Menu - vertical menu on left

When you add something to a menu its weight governs where it is positioned compared to all the other items in the menu. It is also possible to set items as sub-items of other menu items in the vertical menu.

Please do not change the Navigation Menu as this is for all the Administration functions and this does not affect what the public see.

The Rest

Please note this is just scratching the surface of this powerful CMS, there is far more withing the Administration Section and many optional Modules available that add extra functionality. However in most cases these options are not relevant to you, they are part of setting up the website ready for you to use - your main focus will be editing the content.
